Once you have completed the checkout process, you will receive an email with a link to your student dashboard. This is where you will have access to the application materials, including a place to select which Instructor Course(s) you are interested in taking. The other application materials include.

  • Résumé
  • Trip Log
  • References
  • Questionnaire
  • CPR/Med Cert upload
  • Applicant Information
  • Scholarship Application Form

Your application materials must be completed by September 26th, 2025. Decisions about Instructor Courses will be finalized in December and January.

There is no cost to apply to the Instructor Course; if you are accepted to an Instructor Course, there is a $1000 tuition. We encourage all applicants to apply for a scholarship.

Additional Details

Prerequisite: Minimum of a 70-hour Wilderness First Responder and current adult CPR certification.

Home Location: One aspect of prioritization for selection to the NOLS Field Instructor Course is the applicant’s home location. We will prioritize those whose home location is in regional proximity to NOLS’ operating locations (eg: United States, Chile, Mexico, India, East Africa, and New Zealand.) This does NOT mean we will only enroll people who live in these countries. It does mean we will examine your proximity to these NOLS locations in relation to your skills resume and the course skills offered at each of these locations.  If you are curious if your home location and skill set fit into our priorities, please reach out to [email protected].
